Daniel Study

These last few months, I, Amy, have been doing the Beth Moore Bible study on the book of Daniel. In this study, she compares our western culture to that of the culture of the Babylonian empire emphasizing that our motto is the same as theirs "I am and there is NONE besides me." Isaiah 47:10. She proceeds to say that one of the warning signs that we've fallen captive to this type of thinking is when we lose touch with the poor and needy. If we are not actively ministering to the needy among us, we ARE about ourselves. And, if we are about ourselves, we cannot be about what Jesus is about (because we cannot have 2 masters). If we live for ourselves and "our people", then we live a mediocre Christian life. God despises this mediocre lukewarm style life. He wants to look like/emulate Jesus to this fallen world.... and how can we/I do that if we're not with the poor and needy of this world?

Amy, I love that you wrote this b/c I've been convicted of this very thing recently. Only you explained it in such an eloquent way. It might sound silly, but when I watch Extreme Home Makeover I am always inspired to reach out to those around our community who need us. And this post so convicting b/c I don't want to live a mediocre, lukewarm life for Jesus and "my" people - thanks for encouraging.

Maybe you could write this in an E-mail and send it out to EVERYONE. Especially this time of year when we tend to spend so much time and money on each other (the ones that have Everything/One that we need) instead of our neighbors 'in need' around us . . . My Christmas wish is that we all become more like Him and less like us.
Nice..................
