Playing Catch Up #1

So the last few weeks have been a whirlwind and I'm ready to catch up with my blog (instead of unload the dishwasher and start making dinner)! Ava turned 3 months old on October 9th, so to celebrate we went to the State Fair. The day was a magical day. The weather was beautiful and we all had such a great time. Some of the fun included playing farmer (for JG), African acrobats, a juggler, a dancing dog show, pig races, marionets/puppet show, bird show, and much more. That night JG couldn't stop imitating the juggler or talking about how he handed a bird a dollar to put in a donation box. He also kept telling me that he wanted to tell his PawPaw about the dancing boots at the puppet show. I think he had fun, but here are the pictures to prove it.

Yes, a New Post

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately! With Jesse back from being overseas for 2 weeks, I think things will settle down and I can get back to work posting kid pics and stories for you. (It helps that my camera is back from being overseas too).

But instead of kid pics tonight, I wanted to ask for a little encouragment from my readers (if I still have any?) A friend of mine just posted something about prayer on her blog, and it got me thinking...

A Wonderful Night Out

Thanks to both sets of grandparents, we got to have a wonderful night out last night. We left the kiddos at Amy's parents and went to dinner at St. Martin's on lower Greenville. We made sure we made reservations since it was Texas/OU weekend here and downtown was suppose to be crazy. I think they misunderstood us to be renting out the whole place since we were the only ones there. At least they didn't charge us extra. I got to have the Sea Bass and Amy's Fettuccine was free thanks to the Entertainment book. (By the way, Dad, your Sea Bass was much better than this fancy pants place). We forgot to take a picture of our dinner but here is the table we were at:

Then we hurried to the Dallas House of Blues near Victory park to see David Crowder Band play. Back in May, I mentioned on this blog that they were my favorite band and that they were having a concert here but I didn't think I would go. A couple weeks later, my wonderful mom gave us tickets for my birthday. Thanks Mom, the seats were perfect. On the front row of the balcony!!! We had a great time. We hadn't been to a concert in years and felt like we were in college again ... except in better seats. It was so encouraging. The music led us to worship and celebration of life with God here and forever. Here is a picture and some video I took on my camera (click the picture to see the video).

After the concert, we went to Paciugo's in uptown for some gelato. The chocolate and coffee gelato mix we got brought back great memories from Italy.

The whole evening was great. We never really go out like this so it was such a wonderful treat to treat my beautiful bride to a wonderful night out.

Once A Month Cooking (OAMC)

Today my friend Maren and I made our first attempt at OAMC. We made 12 recipes for healthy meals (to go in the freezer) in 6 hours including: multiple clean-up times, meal labeling for storage, Ava feedings and snugglings, and a nice little lunch break. This cooking extravaganza resulted in only one major casualty, a new pair of white ankle socks. When I was trying to transfer homemade chicken taco soup into freezer bags, one overflowed all over the counter, floor, and my sparkling white socks. I will now wear the soup stained socks like a trophy and always remember this, my first OAMC, day.

In case you're curious what I've got chilling in the freezer now, here is the lowdown:

two-cheese pasta and broccoli casserole
chicken enchilada casserole
lunch box taco chicken soup
hubby-will-inhale-them meatballs
mushroom sauce for meatballs
spaghetti/pasta sauce
